I decided to move my blog from Blogger to WordPress.  My work blocks and I wanted to be able write on my lunch break at work, so WordPress seemed like a good place to move.

Hope you like the new blog and come back soon.

Better late than never…

So I’ve been neglecting my blog for the past couple of months… Things have been crazy with work and Thanksgiving and Christmas shopping and Christmas, and my traditional Christmastime cold. And the release of Wrath of the Lich King. So with my limited free time I had to choose between knitting and blogging, and well, if I don’t knit I have nothing to blog about.

But today I find myself in a hotel room on a cold day with nothing else to occupy my time, and I thought it would be a great time to catch up.

I knitted a pair of fingerless mitts using this pattern. I was inspired after seeing them on Amanda Jean’s blog. They are perfect for using my laptop in my boyfriend’s drafty apartment. They are knit from Bernat Softee Chunky yarn in Denim.

I started this washcloth in November but it took me until after New Year to finish it. It is made using this pattern. It is knit in a stockinette pattern with a seed stitch boarder. I used Bernat Handicrafter Cotton. I can’t remember what the colour is because the label went missing.

Ever since I took up knitting my mom has been asking me to knit her some slippers. I thought it would be pretty complicated until I found this pattern. I started one on New Years eve, and when insomnia kicked in after the ball drop at midnight, I stayed up till 3 AM and finished it. I finished the second on the 2nd or 3rd of January.

They are knit from Red Heart Light and Lofty in Wine. They don’t look very good in the picture but my mom loves them. I really didn’t like this yarn but the slippers are really comfy so I bought more to make myself a pair.

I also made a case for my new camera, using some Red Heart yarn I had in my stash for so long I don’t remember what its called. The pattern was improvised from a sewing pattern. I don’t like the case – it turned out a bit too big for the camera, so I’m planning on making another one. The button is from a “Bag O’ Buttons” I bought at Zellers at Christmas time.

I have 2 projects on the go right now – a scarf for my Dad and fingerless mittens for my boyfriend. I also bought 2 balls of sock yarn on the weekend and can’t wait to start on a pair of socks when I get home.

Well I guess that’s all… I’ll try to be a bit more active in the days to come.

Spoonflower Prints Custom Designed Fabric

Website Spoonflower lets you upload your own pictures or designs, and for a price, they will print your design on fabric. At $18 per yard, you can get the perfect fabric for your gift or project.

You can also order a swatch for $5, or a fat quarter for $11, and all fabrics are 100% cotton. I haven’t tried the service so I’m not sure what the shipping time is.

To see examples of fabrics that others have ordered, you can check out the Spoonflower Flickr pool.

Extended Long Weekend

I took Friday and Monday off for an extended long weekend. Thursday marked four wonderful years since I started dating my boyfriend. He had a dozen gorgeous long-stemmed pink and yellow roses to delivered to me at work. He’s such a sweetheart! He also greeted me at home with another 3 red roses. So my house is full of flowers now.

The pictures don’t do them justice. Hopefully my new camera will be delivered before they wilt so I can get a better picture.

I also got a good start on a cute little scarf I’m knitting this morning. The wool is Bernat Softee Chunky in Denim.

When I went to the craft store last night to buy the wool, it was full of Christmas decorations. I guess I better start thinking about Christmas gifts.

Welcome and a bit about me…

My name is a Shelley, I’m 22 and from Ontario, Canada. I decided to start blogging after reading a ton of incredibly interesting crafting blogs and wanted to start one of my own. Unfortunately, I don’t really “craft” fast enough to have a blog devoted entirely to crafting. I like to knit and sew, and I’ve recently developed a fascination with quilting, although I haven’t attempted any quilts yet. I’ll post about my projects, and you can filter out the rest of my boring life using the labels 🙂

While I love knitting, I’m really not very good at it. If it involves making a rectangle with the most basic of patterns, count me in! I’m learning though, so hopefully I’ll be able to tackle something more complicated soon.

A little about me…. I work in the information technology department at a government agency. Getting my job there was a total stroke of luck. I just happened to intern there the right time and be unemployed at an even better time. I love my job, and while currently it is a contract, my chances of being hired permanently are great and I’d be happy to work there for a long time.

I have an amazing boyfriend named Derrick. We met in college. He’s a computer geek like me. The day we met, my laptop was infected with a virus and he kindly offered to stay after class and help me fix it. Our courtship progressed with him bringing me copies of video games he thought I would like. Ah…two geeks in love 🙂 We’ve been dating for almost 4 years now, and hope to get married in the next couple years.

My life is fairly boring… I like to knit, read and play computer games. I’m currently obsessed with reading crafting blogs. I love Grey’s Anatomy, chocolate cheesecake, and the colour blue.

Well I guess that’s all you really need to know about me for now. I hope you enjoy reading my blog. Thanks for stopping by.
